In July, 2017, I quit an unfulfilling job to travel Europe for three months to challenge the way I viewed the world and allow myself some time for creative exploration. I started meeting other travelers, many of whom were fellow Americans. Our discussions revolved around our travel aspirations and concerns about social justice issues around the world. A common theme became evident… people want to immerse themselves in the various cultures of our global community and give back. Through many conversations, and subsequent research, I realized that impact tourism is the new wave.
In Brussels, Belgium, the concept of co-mads was born. Originally, the goal was to curate travel experiences for groups within the U.S., allowing individuals to immerse themselves in local culture and partake in unique adventures; while working to drive social change and promote the missions of effective nonprofit organizations and social enterprises.
Soon after its inception, my idea to start a group travel company evolved to encompass something much larger…my network expanded, incredible opportunities came about, and the idea of co-mads grew to include events and services to help individuals, nonprofits, travel professionals/companies, and other businesses thrive and do more good in their communities, and beyond.
