20 TRAVEL JOURNAL PROMPTS AND IDEAS

May 26, 2021 By co-mads Leave a Comment

Travel is picking back up and what better way to relive the trip then to write it all down. Pictures can capture a moment, but words bring back the distinct feeling you had when exploring a new place!

  1. Pre- trip: What are your expectations of the destination or experience?
  2. Pre-trip: Why did you choose this adventure?
  3. Sit at the beach, on a bench, or at a local coffee shop and describe it using all five senses.
  4. Where are you staying? Write a review of the hotel/ air bnb
  5. Write a letter of gratitude to a person that showed you a simple act of kindness on your trip
  6. “This trip makes me feel…..” Why?
  7. Write about your trip from the perspective of your favorite book or movie character?
  8. What lessons or new facts have you learned on your trip?
  9. Your flight got delayed and you have an extra day in the city.. how are you going to spend the time?
  10. Think about an interesting conversation you had while traveling and begin your journal with that dialogue.
  11. Write about your flight/road trip from the perspective of the plane/car.
  12. What is one piece of advice you would give to anyone traveling to this area?
  13. What did you eat?
  14. What do you miss about home while on this trip?
  15. Write down interesting facts or history about your destination.
  16. What is happening in the news at your destination? Has this affected your trip?
  17. What are your top 5 favorite songs right now?
  18. Post trip: Would you visit again? Or change something in your itinerary before going back?
  19. Post trip: What were the highlights of your adventure?
  20. Post trip: Did you bring home a souvenir? What was it and why did you choose that?

10 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN TRAVELING AFTER THE PANDEMIC

May 26, 2021 By co-mads Leave a Comment

Getting back into the swing of things can be scary, but we’re here to help! COVID has brought its challenges and we are here to ease your mind when hopping back in the car or on a plane to a new destination.

Here are 10 simple tips to get you out the door:

  1. Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in the airport, on a plane, or when you’re hopping out of the car for a rest stop.
    • We found these affordable and reusable masks here.
  2. Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet from anyone not traveling with you.
  3. Practice good hygiene. Yes, we know this sounds repetitive, but sometimes we don’t realize just how often we are touching our eyes, nose, or mouth. Be aware of what you’re touching!
  4. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer (with atleast 60% alcohol)
    • Our favorite hand sanitizer (and it smells good too!): Palmpalm
  5. Bring your own drinks and snacks to avoid crowds/standing in line.
  6. When choosing a place to stay, opt for a place where air can circulate through open windows. Ex: a room with a balcony or terrace, go camping
  7. Choose outdoor activities- when outdoors, risk of transmission is low. Walk along the beach, take a hike, bike through the city.
  8. Carry antibacterial wipes to wipe down surfaces. Our pick: Honest
  9. Stay up to date with travel advice. If you are traveling internationally, check the US State Department website leading up to your trip for the latest information and advice.
  10. VACCINATE.

Travel is Changing, Obviously. Here’s What’s Cool About It.

June 22, 2020 By co-mads Leave a Comment

Travel isn’t the only thing that’s changing. Everything in our world is changing…or has already changed. I’ve spent time reading about the impact of this crisis on tourism, sitting on webinars about how travel trends will be impacted long-term, talking to travel professionals, and doing some internal reflection on how I personally will travel differently due to this experience for time to come.

Here’s an overview of what travel will be looking like for the next year or two, maybe longer…

  • More domestic travel, less international travel
  • More road trips
  • Emphasis on outdoor and wellness activities
  • People feel a responsibility to support small and local business
  • People feel a responsibility to make a positive impact on the communities they explore
  • People will stay away from “touristy” and large cities, they will travel to smaller, developing cities

Now is the time for travel professionals of all varieties – bloggers, tourism promotion agencies, independent travel companies, travel agents, etc. – to pivot and start adopting values like these, not only to sustain and grow their businesses and attract modern day travelers, but to do better for our communities & beyond…to do their part in being socially responsible. It is vital that these businesses stay alive – to feed the wanderlust of individuals who want to learn via experience and to introduce people to new cultures – to build tolerance, inclusivity, and community.

co-mads will be offering affordable marketing/writing/branding/volunteerism consulting services to these travel professionals to help them effectively make the shift. We will do our part in ensuring these businesses have the tools to sustain, grow, succeed, and do more good, everywhere. Stay tuned for our updated website with more details.

If you’re in the travel industry, send me an email at gabby@co-mads.com and let’s have a 30 minute (free) chat about how this crisis has impacted you, your needs, and how co-mads could potentially help.
